An update from Ian Burgess
Owner of Redtread in Spain:

“From the very beginning, my aim was to build Redtread and help it achieve a solid reputation of providing absolute excellence in all aspects of its every day business.

When I bought Redtread from it’s original owner back in 2002,  it had a handful of customers, no database, badly maintained bikes and lots of debt which the original owner hid away from me; however, I saw a great opportunity to make something very special from the original idea.

My 32 years worth of off-road riding and racing and the connections this brings to the business, plus my working background in brand development, helped me to achieve my first goal of making Redtread into being the best Off -Road School and riding experience in Europe. We know this because you guys, our customers, tell us this in your feedback.

My second goal was to bring specialized excellence into the business in the shape of Britain’s best Dakar Rally man, Honda UK’s Mick Extance.

Myself and Mick knew each other from competing in enduro racing many years previous.

Mick Extance has been working successfully with Redtread for over a year. Our customers love the experience and we will be continuing to make Redtread's Mick Extance Tours available throughout the year. Proceeds from the Mick Extance Tours go towards funding his ongoing Dakar attack.

My greatest goal was achieved much quicker than expected when Honda UK’s Roger Harvey contacted me to discuss the opportunity of using their range of CRF X Enduro bikes.

I was delighted to accept the offer just a few weeks ago and I am incredibly excited about the future for Redtread which is now sporting 13 brand new CRF's and an invaluable official alliance with the mighty Honda!

"I really enjoy all the times i spend riding at Redtread, be it working as sweeper or as on this occasion doing the "Mick Extance Tour". Ian and Sally always have everything really organised, this time was no exception. It is a great help for me to ride the trails around Redtread's base as they are very similar to a lot of the trails i ride in the Dakar, plus it helps me get used to the heat which is a bonus i rarely get in the UK. I am riding the Honda CRF450X at Redtread which is exactly the same as my training bike in the UK so happy days! I felt that everyone on this tour had a great time, i know i certainly did. You could sense the enthusiasm from all the riders and non-riders and it made for a great atmosphere around the Redtread Mansion and the riding days flew past with a real buzz in the air. All i can say is thank you to the guys who came on the trip as this helps fund my Dakar for 2008 and to all the guys out there who may be considering a similar trip in the near future, please read the comments from the people who came this time and had a great time.... hope to see you soon!"

"It's always a bit daunting heading off on your own but i needn't have worried in the slightest. The Redtread organisation is first class and Ian and Sal are sticklers for detail and quality from travel arrangements to meals, bike prep to equipment, safety and tuition to stunning routes. They have got it sorted! The tuition is tailored to ability so you work at your own pace and set your own challenges. As i expected there were some great guys (and WAG's) on the tour so plenty to chat about and make new acquaintances. This was a Mick Extance Tour which added a completely different dimension. Not only did we get the benefit of Mick's Dakar riding experience but we also had a unique insight into the greatest Rally organisation in the world. All told first hand over dinner and a beer and lots of laughs in Mick's inimitable style. This was a first class off-road experience in an unforgettable location. Simply brilliant!"
