Comments:owning and racing a CRF250R myself i was not expecting much excitment from the 250X. knowing the lack of BHP it has compared to its motocross sibbling i was expecting it to be dull and lifeless,However I was pleasantly supprised!!!
the mid range power was strong and very useable,the lack of "stand up smack you in the face" power inhabiting the 250R was a welcome gift of confidence when riding inches from a very large drop and lack of terriferma!
the bike turned shrap and stable on both loose and hard pack conditions, with a extremely encouraging high speed stability.
excllent bikes compliment the professional running and superb abilitys of the instructors that is "redtread".
what ever your level of skill on a motorcycle this is a experience not to be missed!

Comments:I rode the bike for two days and it felt easy on the body. It felt really light and easy to manouver, especially in tight turns and the gnarly parts. It did not wear me out even though my general physical shape was bad prior to the two days of riding. I was able to concentrate fully on technique without having any armpump or fatigue to worry about. A booster for your confidence! I also took a 450x for a short spin, and then I noticed it had the torque that I felt the 250x was missing. Next time I'll be in better shape and pick the 450x!

Comments:Befor the ride, I was only used to drive onroad. The horsepowers are not very much, I thought.After the first hour, I was very surprised of the power of this machine.
For a driver without any offroadexperiances like me, it was possible to drift out of the corners.
Really, because of the power in the beginning I was not possible to drive in lower gears. Sometimes I tried it, but nearly everytime it was for me like rodeo on an very angry bull. Everything I will say, is that I think the machine is for Pros and Beginners very good. Not at last, because of that the Honda after some small crashes was Ok. Really the day finished to fast..... Nevertheless in the morning of the next day I walked a little bit like Frankenstein.

The handling at times was nothing short of amazing.Even when you messed up big time it got you through.Sometimes I wondered if it was down to my "skill", but deep down I knew it was down to the incredible reserves of this bike.The brakes were perfect in every situation.At no time did it feel under powered compared to it's 450 big brother.You just have to use the gears more when the going gets more demanding.Otherwise you could choose "full on", using the gears and revs more or "chilled" using higher gears and the amazing torque on offer. To be honest the second option probably isn't much slower than the first,it just isn't so much fun.The only problem i had was the gear change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.At times it just didn't want to go in.This was a bit of a pain at times,espescially when riding "full on" on demanding sections,when it would really mess with your concentration and would result in riding companions disapearing into the distance.[ Very frustrating!!!] Would I buy one? Yes I would,except for reservations over the gear change,but I would like to try the 450 1st to be sure that I wasn't missing out.

Comments:Hi. We where 8 boys from Iceland at Redtread for 1 week in the beginning of feb 2008. We had a great time whith Ian and the bikes that he knows all about. We ask him a lot of questions and he seems to know everything about the bikes. We all ride bikes from europa now, KTM,Husaberg and GAS GAS but will buy os Honda very soon. The bikes are very easy to handling and feels very light. Feels like they are less havy than the bikes we ride. Motor is very good, powerful and running very smoth,the gears are great and suspension great. The problem here in Iceland or the problem in Honda depends how you look at it is to get it street legal its very exspensiv. Honda crf 450 x on the street is about 12500 euros coming from italy where they made them legal, while you can buy ktm for 9000 euros. We can buy the Honda x or f bike for 7500-8000 euros not street legal but than we have problem whith the police. We use the bikes to travel in our montains,on the roads there and police will stop us on illigal bikes. There have been explosion in enduro bikes in Iceland for couple of yaers now and they are selling a lot of new bikes now. If the Honda could get the price down to ktm price, street legal, the Honda would sell more bikes here in Iceland. But the Honda is a great bike and we are all very satisfid and thankful for Ians guidness of the bike. Thordur Sveinsson.

Comments:started out on the CRF250 which I found to be a really nice flickable bike and was really enjoying it. Then on the 2nd day I was on a CRF450. Well what can I say? I felt at home on it almost immediately. The power suited me better than the CRF250. It was a very linear power delivery, which make for a forgiving bike on the trails. The handling suited me too, quite stable but still flickable. I hardly noticed the extra weight of the CRF450 compared to the CRF250 . Ian had said that the CRF450 would suit someone of my build (15 1/4 stone) and he was absolutely right. I was a big fan of the Suzuki DRZ400s Redtread used to campaign. But the CRF range are another couple of divisions up from them. You could tell the CRF heritage came from a racing background rather than just a trailriding (still a big fan of Suzuki DRZ400s as well though) Even had a go of the CRF230 for a bit. What a fun bike that is. So to summarise, If some money fell out of the sky into my lap, I'd be round to my nearest Honda dealer in a nanosecond to buy a CRF450.

Needless to say, the 450 has plenty of power for use offroad.
My main issue was being rather shorter in the leg than the seat height demanded!
It was this, rather than the power of the bike that I found most challenging.
Other than that the bike offered more than I could ask of it (I tried hard mind you!), it was very new and excellently maintained.

The bike just keeps on giving more and more in terms of handling, stability, braking and power. The more you ask, the more it gives. Sensitive to chain tension - inducing shunt when slack. Back brake was either on or off, could do with being a bit softer. More than adequate power to lug 100kg (16 stone) of rider plus 15kg of riding gear and water about but prefered to be revved in a lower gear than chugging in the anticipated ratio. (maybe better for more svelte pilots)Probably the ideal bike for an operation like Redtread as easily up to the job and probably cost less in consumables in the long term than the 450s and maybe a safer/less likely to be damaged option for other than expert riders.

Electric start in 30 degrees of heat is a god send.
Thought the front end was a wee bit harsh initially but it coped very well with the varied terain and the bikes were still only 3-4 weeks old.

Comments:Was not sure about taking one of the 450\'s to start with because it had been 8 years since i last rode anything off road (XR400).
All my doubts quickly disappeared though because they are so easily ridden at any pace. Get to grips with it first then gently ease the pace up if you want. I\'d say suspension / brakes, power, comfort were the outstanding features while it is happy to change line no matter what you\'re doing.
Overall great bikes and sure they will last because Ian and Dougie look after them.

Comments:I rode both the 250 and the 450.
Both fantastic bikes, highly tuned to produce top performance.
I found the 250 was more than adequate, you just needed to work the gearbox more which wasn't a bad thing.
The 450 had more low down 'Grunt' and you could get away with being in the wrong gear. All in all excellent bikes, I will be buying as soon as I can afford!
