Redtread's Pedigree
Redtread's owner and chief guide, Ian Burgess, has over 30 years experience racing off-road motorcycles. His career started at the age of 7 back in 1974 on a yellow Yamaha YZ80D, competing in the Junior class at local ACU schoolboy moto-x races. Spanning 10 years of schoolboy moto-x racing through the ranks of Junior, Intermediate and holding the coveted #1 plate in both Senior and Expert classes aboard Kawasaki's KX125B1, B2 and C1. Ian competed in many National Championships and International moto-x events. At age 17, Ian entered into the world of "adult" competition in 1984.
Initially Riding a Kawasaki KDX200 in the Clubman Class at 17 years old, Ian needed to gain experience for his first year in Racing. Reading time-cards, finding course markers and check points was all brand new and a little confusing!
The International Six Days (ISDE) in Spain in 1985 was a career highlight. At 18 years old, Ian was one of the youngest competitors ever in one of the world's toughest competitions. This event was the launch pad for the rest of Ian's racing future.
For fun, Ian competed in the Weston Beach Race in 1985 on a Husqvarna WR400 which clocked almost 100mph on the straight, it was a beast! The result - 33rd, the damn thing seized up but ran till the end!
Once Expert status had been reached, assistance arrived in the form of Husqvarna. This was back when Husky's were made by hand in Sweden, they were fantastic bikes and Ian rode the WR240, 250, 400 and 430 automatic models!
Overall Premiers were won in the "Cwm Owen", "Yorkshire 2 Day", "Welsh 2 Day", "Dyfi" and "Tour of Wales" events. Ian became Northern Champion and British Champion in 1986.
Ian's career continues through to the present day. He has boundless enthusiasm for motorcycle sport, both on and off-road and follows the racing calendars closely.
From being 17, Ian has ridden road bikes too. Everything from a KR1S track day bike, ZXR750, ZX10, SP1, Fat Boy and recorded a time of 8 minutes and 32 seconds at the Nurburgring in Germany on a 1999 Yamaha R1.
Redtread's clients, young and old, novice and expert alike, have all commented on Ian's amazing tuition ability. The visitor's book speaks volumes on how guests have improved their riding skills and ability beyond their wildest dreams all because of Ian's tuition skills, patience and natural ability to boost the rider's confidence.
It is worth noting that Ian is a qualified Instructor and holds a currect First Aid Certificate in Emergency First Response.

Where do we ride?
Your tour will take you from sea-level up to the peaks of high mountains, such as Maroma, which stands at 2000m (6000ft) above sea-level where the panoramic views are truly stunning. You will experience riverbeds (dry and wet), mountain trails, firebreaks, old smugglers trails and forestry sections. Expect to ride from 10am through till 5pm with an hour for lunch. We will cover approximately 120km and above each riding day depending upon the group and weather conditions. Your riding skills are all taken into consideration and the Tours are assembled around them so you will have every available opportunity to completely enjoy your off-road experience to the full.
What will you see?
Expect to see wild Andalusian horses, various species of eagles, buzzards, hawks, kites, wolves, wild boar, Ibex, bulls, sheep and mountain goats. Also magnificent views of unspoilt mountainous countryside and fresh country air perfumed with wild herbs such as fennel, rosemary and lavender. The pine forests smell fantastic and the wild oranges we pick and eat on the trails are truly delicious.
What about lunch?
Whilst on tour, the hour long lunch stop (included in your tour price) will usually be taken at a local Spanish restaurant either in the mountains or on the coast. Traditional Spanish Tapas here is magnificent! Take time to experience the food, the atmosphere and the local hospitality which is totally unique to Southern Spain. We only eat where the locals eat. Tourists don't venture out far enough to find these villages! It also gives you the opportunity to listen to the banter and exaggerations from your riding buddies over a leisurely lunch!
What do you need to bring?
Basically, just bring yourself, your bike skills (good or bad, expert or novice, road or off-road) and your motorbike licence. If you have any off-road gear you are welcome to bring it, alternatively you can use our full range of THOR off-road kit all at no extra charge.
